HIST 379C The History of American Music
This course will review the history of American music, focusing on the evolution of different genres and styles over time. It will relate music to broader patterns in culture and society: the growth of American cities, race relations, youth culture, etc. Students will be encouraged to incorporate into the class their own favorite music, and to learn to think about this music historically.
