AI 487 Introduction to Medical Image Computing
This course provides an introduction to computational methods for the analysis and
interpretation of medical images. Topics include medical imaging modalities (such as
MRI, CT, and ultrasound), image formation principles, image preprocessing,
segmentation, registration, feature extraction, and visualization techniques. Students will explore applications in diagnosis, treatment planning, and medical research, with emphasis on the integration of imaging data with computational algorithms. The course also addresses challenges such as noise, artifacts, and ethical considerations related to patient data. Hands-on assignments and projects provide experience with contemporary medical image computing tools and software.
