AI 480 Numerical Analysis and Optimization

This course introduces the principles and methods of numerical analysis and optimization for solving mathematical and engineering problems. Topics include error analysis, numerical solutions of linear and nonlinear equations, interpolation and approximation, numerical differentiation and integration, and iterative methods. The course also covers optimization techniques, including unconstrained and constrained optimization, gradient-based methods, and numerical approaches for large-scale problems. Emphasis is placed on both theoretical understanding and practical implementation, with applications in engineering, data science, and computational modeling. Students gain hands-on experience using computational tools to implement and analyze numerical algorithms. Prerequisites: AI 124, AI 230, and AI 430.
