MUS 515 Popular and Contemporary Vocal Styles for the Theatre Performer: Level I
This course is designed to familiarize the student with the popular and contemporary musical genres not covered by standard musical theatre repertoire. . Topics covered will include the cultural history of the varied popular singing styles of the late 20th- and 21st-centuries; techniques to sing authentically and safely in styles such as Doo-Wop, Pop, Rock and Roll, Country, R&B, and Folk; and the selection and preparation of appropriate material from the Pop and Rock repertoire for use at professional theatre auditions. The semester will culminate with a public performance, typically in Ward Recital Hall. Prerequisite: MUS 215A Movement for the Actor Level II.
