Degree Requirements

Policies are subject to change. Please consult the School of Architecture and Allied Arts website at http://architecture.catholic.edu for current policies and requirements.

The First-Year Experience

All undergraduate students participate in the First-Year Experience, a learning-community-based program that allows freshmen to take four core courses together as a university community.

English Requirement

All students take ENG 101, Rhetoric and Composition, as part of the First-Year Experience, but some may be placed in ENG 103 (for International students). Students who receive a C- or less in English should repeat the course.

Mathematics Requirement

The mathematics requirement for the architecture program is one semester of MATH 108: Elementary Functions, followed by one semester of MATH 111: Calculus for Social and Life Sciences. All incoming freshmen must take the math placement exam. Students testing out of one or both of these classes are allowed to take any Catholic University course of their choosing in place of MATH 108 and/or MATH 111. Students enrolled in the BAAS curriculum have options for their math requirements.

Art Requirements

To be accepted as a major, an applicant for the program in Art & Design must have at least a C average in ART 101, ART 102, ART 207, ART 208, ART 211, and ART 212. (PLEASE NOTE: Taking ART 201 and ART 202 Drawing and Composition I & II will not automatically replace the requirements for ART 207 and ART 208.) An applicant for the program in Art History must have a minimum of a C average in ART 211, ART 212, ART 332, and one other art history course. Students who have not completed these courses with the requisite grade by the end of their sophomore year will only be accepted conditionally until these requirements are completed.

Students with a GPA greater than 3.2 are eligible to pursue double majors (the B.A. in Art plus another disciplinary area). Double majors may be arranged through the School and the academic home of the other major.  Minors in studio art and art history are also available.
