Minor in Asian Studies

An Asian Studies minor can be a great choice for students majoring in Business, Politics, History, Theology and Religious Studies, Media Studies, and many other subjects at Catholic University. This minor provides an interdisciplinary and comparative perspective to expand knowledge about the development, functioning, and interaction of Asian people, values, regions, and cultures. It is flexible and can be tailored to each student's interests and learning goals. As part of the program, students study an Asian language (such as Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese, Hindi, or another appropriate language) up to an intermediate level, gaining proficiency in both language and culture. The Office of Global Strategies highly encourages students to explore the option of studying abroad. Students can receive credit toward their requirements, subject to approval. If they wish to study at institutions other than the ones mentioned below, they need to get prior approval. The recommended institutions are Chung Yuan Christian University, Sophia University, IES Abroad Tokyo Summer, and Sogang University. Additionally, there are scholarships and internship opportunities available for interested students. The minor consists of six courses: two Asian language courses at 103-level or higher, and four elective courses related to Asian regions. Students must take elective courses in at least two different disciplines offered by two different departments. Two of the electives must be taken at Catholic University.
