Program in Africana Studies

Program Director: Rona Frederick, Ph.D.

The mission of Africana Studies is to advance research, thought, and practice by offering essential interdisciplinary training for both undergraduate and graduate students about peoples of African ancestry on the African continent and throughout the world from their lived experiences and ideas. This mission is derived from the strength of the Catholic University of America as a dynamic academic and faith-based community which, in a rigorous and fundamental fashion, assists in the protection and advancement of human dignity. The aim is to foster excellence in research and teaching by examining the experiences and contributions of African peoples throughout the Diaspora through their lens, with specific commitments to community engagement, activism, and safeguarding African heritage across the globe.
