SPAN 345 Spanish in the United States: Debunking the Myths
This course aims to validate the Spanish spoken in the United States by providing students with an introduction to the sociolinguistic, linguistic, and cultural factors that influence these varieties of Spanish and Spanglish. Students will use primary texts to analyze linguistic and sociolinguistic features, discuss Latino culture, and summarize linguistic variation in the United States. Students will also investigate the use of Spanish in the public and educational spheres and examine the effects of language on identity.

Must have taken two of the following courses: SPAN 300,
SPAN 301, or
SPAN 302
