PSY 287 Mental Health in the African American Community

This class will examine cultural, social, and societal factors that contribute to our understanding of mental health among Black people in the United States. The course will focus on topics such as the Black family, racism, cultural mistrust, stereotype threat, cross-cultural relations, and culturally adapted therapy interventions.. Spirituality, common misconceptions about Black individuals, and within group differences related to gender, class, age and sexual orientation will also be explored.
