POL 462 Ethics and Accountability in the U.S. Intelligence Community

This Capstone course examines ethical constructs present in the U.S. Intelligence Community juxtaposed to real-world challenges. The foundational review of Catholic ethics in international relations and intelligence begins with the philosophical frameworks of St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas followed by discussions about intelligence from the secular perspectives of Utilitarianism, Realpolitik, and Idealism (including the modern conceptualization of Liberalism), among others. Building on this foundation, students embark on the application of philosophy and theory to real-world issues ranging from the overthrow of governments to the politicization of intelligence and the use of AI by the U.S. Intelligence Community. Prerequisite: POL 260 Introduction to American Intelligence
