ENT 118A The Vocation of Business

Offered in the Fall semester for only Freshmen Business School majors. In this course, you will learn to think like an entrepreneur, to see the great capacity for business to create value and be an expression of the creative force within each person; and you will take a major step forward in discerning your own personal mission and vocation. Students study the meaning and purpose of business; examine a career in business; and explore the key values, measurements and goals of work, the economy and prosperity. Think of the class as divided into phases: discern, create, grow. Through growth in understanding of the field of business and discovery of your personal core motivations, you will discern your unique gifts and calling and start a business. You will create value for yourself and others by starting your own business. And you will grow in both self-knowledge and skill, learning through the experience to examine the vocation of business as well as various elements of the business enterprise. Concretely, you will learn the basics of business, including ideation, marketing, planning and communication --and what it means to think economically. This course is ideal for students who are seeking to discern their interests and career options, be it in business or other fields. Formally ENT/MGT 118
