NURS 770D Primary Care of Children Clinical Practicum

In this nurse practitioner (NP) clinical practicum course, students continue to develop the advanced practice knowledge and clinical skills needed to assume responsibility and accountability for the health promotion, assessment, diagnosis, and management of pediatric primary care problems. The NP student will complete precepted clinical practicums that ensure adequate time in settings where children with primary care needs are present. Family NP students are required to complete 2 credits (180 clinical hours) to gain experience managing young children (ages 0-12 years): ¿Wellness (60 clinical hours minimum) ¿Episodic (20 clinical hours minimum) ¿Chronic (20 clinical hours minimum) Pediatric Primary Care NP students are required to complete 5 credits (450 clinical hours) to gain experience managing the following populations: Young Children (ages 0-12 years) Wellness (60 clinical hours minimum) Episodic (20 clinical hours minimum) Chronic (20 clinical hours minimum) Newborn (60 clinical hours minimum) Adolescent (90 clinical hours minimum) Special needs (120 clinical hours minimum) The clinical practicum sequence recommended for Pediatric Primary Care NP students is: Practicum 1: Young Children Practicum 2: Newborn and Adolescent Practicum 3: Special Needs Practicum 4: General Pediatric Primary Care
