PHIL 323 Mind and Brain

Human thought is studied both by philosophers and empirical psychologists. The course examines the relation between these two modes of inquiry: to what extent should philosophy inform the interpretation of empirical results, and what does psychology indicate regarding the possibility of a philosophy of mind? The course investigates these questions of method through a careful examination of the mindful operations of perception and action. This course is intended to supplement studies in psychology or brain sciences and will presuppose the ability to read academic work in psychology.
