MATH 480 Fundamentals of Commutative Algebra and Algebraic Geometry

The basic theory of algebraic varieties, with an emphasis on examples and calculations related to the geometry of algebraic curves and surfaces; linear geometry and hypersurfaces; conics; Pythagorean triples, quadrics, and elliptic curves; polynomial rings, ideals, algebraic sets; the Zariski topology, and irreducibility; affine and projective varieties and their morphisms; and rational functions and rational maps.
