ANTH 214 The Anthropology of Food

This course introduces students to anthropological methods for investigating the production, distribution, consumption, and cultural meaning of food. We move from how food systems have developed historically across the world, to how food functions as a form of both biological and cultural sustenance, to how food articulates with intersectional demographic categories like race, ethnicity, gender, nationality, and religion. The result is a nuanced appreciation of how food is not just good to eat, but also "good to think."
