EE 549 Artificial Intelligence of Things

This course explores the intersection of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) through the emerging field of AIoT -- Artificial Intelligence of Things. Students will begin by learning how to build embedded AI systems using TinyML, deploying real-time models on ultra-low-power microcontrollers with sensor inputs (e.g., audio, motion, environmental data). In the second half of the course, students will dive into advanced AI model development using PyTorch, covering deep learning techniques, custom dataset handling, model evaluation, and deployment strategies. The course culminates in two major hands-on projects: one focused on training an AI model in PyTorch and another on building a complete AIoT system with edge deployment. This class bridges hardware and software, preparing students for AI-integrated system design and development at the edge. Proposed Prerequisites: Python programming, Introductory Machine Learning
