SUMR 268 How to Get, Grow, and Thrive in a Self-Employed, Academic, Private, and Government Career

This course equips students with practical tools and strategies to build, sustain, and advance a professional career in various sectors, including self-employment, academia, private industry, and government. Through self-assessment, leadership development, networking, and hands-on real time career planning exercises, students will learn how to navigate career transitions from any life stage (including but not limited to pursuing a CUA certificate, undergraduate, graduate, doctoral, pos-doctoral, and beyond degree/credentials, enhance professional branding, and integrate ethical leadership into their careers. OR This course is to help students from any major and all walks of life to develop a productive and winning approach to finding and designing their work-life balance and vocations after CUA. Moreover, this course equips students with practical tools and strategies to build, sustain, and advance a professional career in various sectors, including self-employment, academia, private industry, and government. Through self-assessment, leadership development, networking, and hands-on real time career planning exercises, students will learn how to navigate career transitions from any life stage (including but not limited to pursuing a CUA certificate, undergraduate, graduate, doctoral, pos-doctoral, and beyond degree credentialing, enhance professional branding, and integrate ethical leadership into their careers This is a bi-directional course that includes seminar style discussions, personal written reflections, occasional surprise guest speakers with lived experience, and mentoring/coaching.
