SPAN 203 Global Cultures and Communities in the Spanish-Speaking World

In this advanced Spanish class, students will develop cultural competence and investigate global issues affecting Spanish-speaking cultures of the world (such as immigration, politics, cultural identity, economic security, indigenous cultures). Audiovisual presentations, newspaper and magazine articles, Spanish language films and podcasts will serve as the basis for class discussions. Pronunciation practice and review of grammatical structures will be incorporated throughout the semester. By the end of the semester, students will have refined their conversational and written skills, gained familiarity with global Spanish and Latin American cultures, and expanded their vocabulary to be able to interact with native Spanish speakers on a variety of real-world topics. Fulfills the practical language skills/cultural competence requirement for Global Studies.
