SAS 226 The good, the bad, and the algorithm: The Art and Science of AI
As we stand at the precipice of a technological revolution driven by artificial intelligence (AI), it becomes increasingly crucial to integrate humanities perspectives into the development and deployment of these technologies. AI is rapidly advancing and integrating into numerous areas that directly impact our lives, from medicine and finance to social media and education. This class recognizes this critical moment and seeks to equip students with the knowledge and tools to understand and influence the ethical, social, and cultural dimensions of AI.
The rapid growth of AI presents big opportunities and critical challenges. AI can enhance human creativity, improve decision-making, and solve complex problems. On the other hand, it raises profound ethical questions about privacy, bias, and the future of work. By bringing humanities into the conversation, this course aims to foster a broad understanding of AI that includes not only a technical understanding but also critical thinking about its broader impacts on society.
The class will also include practical workshops leading students to use AI in a tailored way for their discipline and their own projects.
