POL 360A Subsidiarity, Solidarity, and the State
This course will investigate the concept and form of the modern state as articulated by Hobbes and other theorists, and will investigate the theoretical and historical relationship between the modern state and the central Catholic social and political doctrines of subsidiarity and solidarity. It will therefore also consider how questions of devolution, centralization and decentralization, and other political concepts centered around the modern state correspond or not to principles of subsidiarity and solidarity.
