ART 252 CUA@NGA
This class will meet at the National Gallery of Art and will take place entirely in the galleries. (Please ensure you can get to the museum by the start time of class.) Students will closely study works of art executed mostly in the Netherlands and Germany (with a few examples from Italy, Spain, and France) from around 1400 to 1700. The course is arranged chronologically, by region, and thematically to allow students to understand how artistic trends and specific artworks fit within broader social and cultural contexts. Students will examine literary sources and contemporary responses to artists and their work. Fulfills Explorations in Fine Arts course requirement.
