PLCY 560 National Security Policy

This course is meant to provide students with an introduction to the formation and implementation of security policy. It begins with a historical review of American foreign policy and with general questions of statecraft. It proceeds to three separate case studies: the Russia/Ukraine war; the competition between the United States and China; and the security concerns the United States has in the Middle East. This course concludes with a policy-writing exercise, in which students will apply what they have learned to real-time challenges; they will also be asked to compress their thinking into a memo and into briefing notes (as a final assignment).
