SOC 208 Sociology of Delinquency

This course provides an in-depth exploration of delinquency from a sociological perspective. We will cover the history, goals, and philosophy of juvenile justice in America, a system founded on the recognition that children are fundamentally different from adults. Students will examine the multifaceted nature of delinquent behavior along with societal responses, starting with a foundational understanding of what constitutes delinquency. The course will consider the experiences of justice-involved youth and the impact of justice policies on juvenile outcomes.
