DR 411 Musical Theatre Directing

During the semester students will learn the fundamentals of the director's craft and how to apply them to the direction of a musical number. The course focuses on the director's preparation process and how to apply it to a successful collaboration with singing actors, choreographers, and music directors. The course culminates with a final musical scene directed entirely by the student. Music elective for undergraduate music majors; academic elective for qualified undergraduate non-music majors. Prerequisite: DR 206. Basic music reading skills required; non-music majors must contact the instructor prior to registering for the course to demonstrate these skills. Departmental consent required.
