EAM 505 Personal Finance

The fundamental skills of accounting, balancing checking accounts, budgeting, planning student and automobile loan payments, and writing expense reports will be offered through practical exercises relevant to the life of a seminarian within a theological framework of priestly sobriety of life, accountability, and transparency. The seminarians will learn the practice of personal detachment from worldly things within the context of gratitude for the support of the Church in their formation, while developing the skills and habits to best use time with a habitual commitment to serve through the practice of reframing and other techniques in accord with the spiritual masters and complemented by contemporary cognitive science. The course will implement an asynchronous e-learning format that can be completed in standalone fashion during the Propaedeutic or other pastoral period and may be supplemented with in person participation directed by a local instructor or through synchronous workshops with CUA Faculty.
