APN 689 Introduction to Modeling and Simulation

"This is an introduction to a family of modeling techniques for condensed matter systems. After a brief review of the basics of statistical physics and quantum mechanics, topics to be covered include molecular dynamics, Brownian dynamics, Metropolis algorithm, and computational packages for band structure calculation. Background material will be presented at the appropriate level, and students will be encouraged to learn the material through group and individual computing projects. "
