MATH 505 Abstract Algebra I

Groups, group homomorphisms and isomorphisms, isomorphism theorems, permutation groups, cosets and Lagrange's Theorem, normal subgroups and factor groups, Fundamental Theorem of finite Abelian groups.Introduction to rings, ideals, ring homomorphisms, and polynomial rings. Introduction to fields and field extensions. Prerequisite: Math 248 or permission of department.
