This course stresses sensitivity to and respect for cultural, ethnic, and spiritual diversity in a health care setting. The objective of this online course is to develop cultural awareness and sensitivity that will help students provide competent, compassionate care to Hispanic populations. Students will demonstrate understanding of how Hispanics/Latinos perceive health and illness, and respond to various symptoms, diseases, and treatments, through journal entries, projects, and discussions with their professor and peers. This includes considering the patient's education, financial resources, and alternative or complementary medical practices in patient care. This is a weekly online, asynchronous course in which students progress through the material at their own pace within defined time limits.
