CLAS 282 The Rise of Christianity
How did Christianity evolve from being a small sect of Judaism to becoming the dominant religion in the Roman Empire? This course considers this question through an exploration of key figures, issues, and events in the first five centuries of Christianity. Students will examine the growth and spread of Christian communities, the development of doctrine and spirituality, the evolution of institutional structures, and the interaction of Christianity with its political and social context.
