ARPL 511 History of Art and Architecture I

This course explores the history of world architecture, urban design, and art from its beginnings to the end of the Romanesque period (Carolingian). Examples will be discussed with respect to aesthetic principles, symbolism and cultural meaning, site and urban design, spatial sequence, detailing, and construction and systems technology, and in the context of their behavioral, cultural, political, religious, ecological, and economic environments.
