ART 451 Senior Art & Design Coordinating Seminar
This course consists of lectures, assigned readings, museum visits and studio art projects. The course is designed to give the student an understanding of contemporary art issues and concepts and how these relate to the making of art today. The course will ask students to critically think about their art practice,
intellectualize their artistic concepts, and verbalize their intentions and results using terms and ideas applicable to contemporary art-making today. The work done in this course is designed to build the student's final Senior Thesis Exhibition, which is the culmination of the Studio Art Major.
Students should achieve a deeper understanding of the concepts, skills and issues of contemporary art making. Students will also be exposed to the works of numerous artists and gain an appreciation of contemporary art in relation to their own artistic practice. Students will further their abilities to critically analyze works of art and utilize this analysis in the development of their own work. Students will also
work on the development of a semester-long art project that will culminate in an exhibition at Salve Regina Gallery.
