PHIL 905 The Intellect and the Will

Humans seem to possess two distinct rational faculties: the intellect the seat of theoretical reason, and the will the seat of practical reason. In this course, we will try to understand how these two faculties are similar to and different from one another, paying special attention to those thinkers who either affirm or deny that the two faculties are conceptually isomorphic. This course will pay particular attention to C.S. Peirce, David Hume, and the Aristotelean tradition as it is developed in Elizabeth Anscombe.
