PHIL 660 The Structure of Scientific Revolutions
Thomas Kuhn's The Structure of Scientific Revolutions is one of the most influential philosophical works of the 20th century. An incredibly wide-ranging work, it weaves together many of the threads which defined that century, not only in philosophy of science, but also language, perception, historiography, and more. This course will explore the genesis of Kuhn's work, its reception, and its aftermath. Of particular interest will be Kuhn's understanding of science education, rationality, and the highly traditional character of scientific research.
