NURS 621D Leadership Practicum 1
Leadership Practicum I is an immersive learning course designed to give students initial exposure to leadership roles in nursing practice. Students will work directly with nurse leaders at the point of service to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world situations and meet specific learning goals in a chosen area of interest. This practicum focuses on observing, analyzing, and participating in leadership activities in a healthcare setting, emphasizing the foundational skills and interprofessional collaboration required for effective leadership.
This experiential course includes 180 clinical practicum hours, which refer to nursing decisions, actions, or interventions provided through or on behalf of individuals, families, or groups. Experiential learning occurs in any setting where healthcare is delivered, or health is influenced, and it allows for and requires the student to integrate new practice-related knowledge and skills. For this course, indirect clinical practicum includes nursing
care activities provided at the point of care with other healthcare providers intended to achieve specific health goals or achieve selected health outcomes, regardless of setting.
Additionally, course content is anchored in the American Organization for Nursing Leadership (AONL) (2022) Nurse Leader Core Competencies communication and relationship management, professionalism, knowledge of the healthcare environment, business skills, and principles enabling students to readily transfer these critical skills to the student practice setting with enhanced inter-professional collaboration.
