MUS 547W Gregorian Chant Practicum I

Study of Gregorian chant notation and modality; performance practice and conducting; sight-reading with tonic sol-fa syllables; rhythmic interpretation according to the principles of Dom Andre Mocquereau, O.S.B., author and founder of the Solesmes Method; repertory of liturgical chants. Oral and written examinations required. To participate fully in the course/workshop, students should possess, at minimum, the ability to sing on pitch. Students lacking this qualification may not be able to succeed in the course.
