SPAN 495P International Clinical Practicum in Lima, Perú

This intensive 18-day program represents a collaborative effort between Catholic University and the University of Piura Lima Campus' (UDEP) Department of Psychology, Faculty of Medicine, and Language Center. Through a blend of clinical experiences, hospital rounds, community outreach, and interactive discussions, students gain a comprehensive understanding of healthcare within the Peruvian context. The program integrates clinical rotations where students participate in real-life clinical and psychological encounters, offering insights into idiosyncratic linguistic and cultural practices specific to Peru. Under the supervision of certified medical preceptors, doctors, and psychologists, students learn how to deliver appropriate and effective care within Peruvian government hospitals and clinical facilities. With an emphasis on visiting marginalized communities and engaging in public health campaigns, students not only contribute meaningfully to the communities involved but also undergo transformative experiences that foster cultural sensitivity and global awareness in healthcare provision. Incorporating a language immersion component, the program enhances students' professional Spanish language skills within a healthcare setting. Participants not only refine their language proficiency but also actively contribute to public health initiatives in Peru. Upon completion, students earn 3 credits from Catholic University and receive a certificate acknowledging 50 hours of international clinical practice from UDEP. Through a combination of clinical experiences and community outreach, students develop proficiency in using professional language to address diverse health-related situations. Language Proficiency: This program requires intermediate-advanced to native Spanish proficiency (200-400 level) and is part of the Spanish for Healthcare certificate program.
