SOC 107 Introduction to Criminal Justice

This course provides an introduction to the formal institutions of social control in the United States¿the criminal justice system. We will closely examine the three major components of the criminal justice process and key issues related to them: policing, the courts, and corrections. The primary goal of this course is to develop a foundational understanding of how the criminal justice system operates, its complexities, and the impact of social factors on the administration of justice. We will also explore juvenile justice and life after corrections (reentry). Students will gain insight into the importance of criminal justice research, justice policy, and reform.
