ECON 105 Freakonomics

What is it like to think like an economist? This course will help you to see the world through the lens of economics. Economists base their views on rational and logical thinking with support grounded in statistical evidence. Often the conclusions economists draw can be different than conventional wisdom. As a social science, two of the primary questions in economics are why do people behave the way they do and how does the world really work? The answers may sometimes, or oftentimes, surprise you. This course will be based on the best-selling book Freakonomics and several follow-up books by Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner as well as the ongoing podcast Freakonomics Radio. It will hopefully challenge the way you look at things in the world and get you to think about things from a different perspective. A multitude of interesting topics and questions will be discussed in a fun environment that is designed to help give students a greater appreciation for the science of economics.
