PSY 301 Psychology of Work

Work is a central aspect of our lives and can dramatically impact our happiness. Psychology provides core insights into the nature of work and the workplace in terms of individuals, organizations, and cultures. This course addresses psychological topics of motivation, decision making, teamwork, and leadership, which are considered core issues in industrial/organizational psychology. The importance of using evidence-based approaches, rather than opinion, to understand work is demonstrated throughout. Emphasis is placed on factors that support worker well-being and an engaging work environment. Attention will also be given to how work is changing with transformations in technology (especially artificial intelligence) and social structures, in which our notions of industry, organization, and work itself are being reassessed. The course discusses how work will look in the future, and its important psychological and social impacts.
