GER 255 Mysteries, Murders, and Thrillers: German Crime Fiction in the Modern Context

The course, which is taught in English, examines the crime fiction genre in the German context. Students explore how the German-speaking world established many of the standards used in crime fiction narration and how German history and politics continue to shape the genre. Crime fiction reveals how society approaches notions of justice, socioeconomic class, conflicts between nation-states, gender, politics, and redemption. All readings and class discussion are in English. No prerequisites.
