TRS 706 Elijah in Jewish, Christian and Muslim Tradition

The figure of Elijah has been the subject of reflection, embellishment, and emulation since the book of Malachi and the Transfiguration. This course begins with close reading of the Elijah narratives in Kings, then traces his later biblical appearances. Jewish, Christian, and Muslim traditions about Elijah will be studied in translation. Particular attention is given to Elijah as "founder" of the Carmelite order and writings of Carmelite authors.
