PHIL 780 Intention

This course will investigate the topic of human action by examining intention and related concepts such as the voluntary; object, end, circumstance; the role of mental states in action; and so on. Texts will come from many periods of the history of philosophy, but with special attention given to G. E. M. Anscombe's Intention, relevant sections of Aquinas's Summa theologiae, and some influential work by John Finnis, Germain Grisez, and Joseph Boyle.
