HIST 651 Readings in Nineteenth-Century U.S. History

This graduate readings seminar introduces students to important and influential works in the historiography of United States history over the long 19th century (1790-1920). Topics covered include: politics in the early republic and the war of 1812; antebellum reform and the 'market revolution'; slavery and territorial expansion; race, gender, and changing notions of citizenship; economic and cultural change in the Gilded Age, and the Populist and Progressive responses.
